Career Profile – Dave Labrum

Dave Labrum is a Roadworks Ganger in the Council’s Highways section.

“Before working for Northampton Borough Council I had undertaken similar roles in the private sector and had also worked on the oil rigs. I joined NBC because they could offer me more job security and a regular wage.

“The opportunities for further training at the Council are excellent. Since joining NBC I have gained a NEBS qualification (National Advisory Board for Supervisory Management), as well as many other certificates related to my job.

“I have also become a representative for my union, GMB. This is an additional role that I have found very enjoyable and rewarding.”

Career Profile –Kelli Maynard

Kelli Maynard is a Principal Customer Information Officer in the Council’s One Stop Shop information centre.

“I previously worked at Northampton Borough Council dealing with benefit applications and then as a Training and Administration Officer before taking up my post in the Council’s One Stop Shop. One of the best features of my job is the fact that no two days are ever the same; the work is just so varied. I work with a great team, everyone is really flexible and we all help each other.

“The main focus of my job is to act as a first point of contact for customers enquiring about services that Northampton Borough Council and Northamptonshire County Council offer, and to make sure that they leave satisfied with the level of customer service we provide. The queries I get are very diverse and range from people seeking advice about parking permits right through to people asking about refuge collections.

“The role is a challenging one and gives me a lot of personal satisfaction. The Council has provided me with a variety of training opportunities in areas like customer services, deaf awareness and basic sign language, which has allowed me to enhance my personal development and customer service skills.

Career Profile – Richard Austin

Richard Austin is the Service Development Manager in the Council’s Revenues and Benefits section.

“I came to the Council following a successful 17-year career at Royal Mail where I was working on implementing systems to facilitate change across the organisation. I was attracted to a career at Northampton Borough Council because I wanted to give something back to the community I have lived in all my life. I also felt that the Council could offer me a better work-life balance.

“Since taking up my position in Revenues and Benefits I have found the support I received from my manager to be exceptional. I really feel that my manager trusts me to achieve success in my role without the need for intervention, although she is always available when I need her to be.

“What drives me at the moment is having the ability to make a difference. The projects I am working on are at the forefront of taking Northampton Borough Council forward. There is still a long way to go, but the energy and the momentum is there to ensure we succeed.”
