FLEXIBLE WORKING
We have a number of choices available to our employees to help them enhance the balance between their work and personal life. Options include job sharing, flexitime and special leave.
LOCAL GOVERNMENT PENSION SCHEME
The Local Government Pension Scheme is open to all employees of the Council who are between 16 and 65. If you choose to join this final salary scheme you will have the flexibility to make additional voluntary contributions or purchase extra years in addition to the regular contributions made directly from your pay.
ANNUAL LEAVE
Northampton Borough Council offers a generous 26 days leave per year. This increases to 31 days leave after 5 years continuous service (or pro-rata for part-time workers).
The following bank holidays also apply:
• Good Friday and Easter Monday
• May day
• Spring Holiday Monday
• Late Summer Holiday Monday
• Christmas Day and Boxing Day
• New Year’s Day
MATERNITY LEAVE AND PARENTAL LEAVE
Rights of pregnant women to leave and pay are in accordance with the National Joint Council Agreements. These rights are dependant of pregnant employees complying with certain notification requirements.
Full details are set out in a maternity pack, which is available from the Directorate Personnel Manager.
Employees who have one years continuous service are entitled to 13 weeks unpaid leave for the purposes of caring for a child until the child is 5 years old. In order to qualify for this leave the employee must have responsibility for a child. Further details regarding the scheme and exceptions relating to adopted and disabled children can be found in the Employee Handbook.
RELOCATION TO NORTHAMPTON
Our scheme provides assistance in appropriate cases to newly appointed employees who, as a result of their appointment, are required to relocate to Northampton. Further details are available on request.
